MANAGEMENT TEAM

The GPLMS project is administered by the Gauteng Education Development Trust (GEDT) under the leadership of Mr Allan Moonsammy. The GEDT is located at JET (Joint Education Trust) under the leadership and direction of Mr Godwin Khoza.

JET works hand in hand with the GPLMS Management Team, whose responsibilities include:

  • Financial management
  • Liaison and communication with the Gauteng Department of Education
  • Liaison and communication between district offices, schools, unions and service providers
  • Development and distribution of training and learning materials
  • Co-ordination, monitoring and evaluation of training activities
  • Compliance and quality assurance of all service providers
  • Data collection and analysis

Work experience as a teacher: Tsosoloso Primary School, Reitumetse High School (Soshanguve), Hlomphanang High School (Soshanguve), Modjadji College of Education (Lecturer; Primary Teacher Education), District facilitator: Tshwane South District Co-ordinator: Inclusion, Head Office Chief Education Specialist, Foundation Phase GPLMS Language Project Manager.

    Primary Responsibilities in GPLMS

    Oversee all GPLMS Foundation phase language activities which includes but not limited to:

    The development of the lesson plans, development of DVDs, training of coaches, teachers and district officials, reference team meetings to ensure development of quality lesson plans, meetings with NGOs, monitoring the implementation of the programme, reporting on all language activities, on a monthly (Programme of Action-POA), Quarterly – GEDT, GDE, liason with district officials to ensure seamless implementation of the programme as well as synergy.

    Professional Biography

    I have worked in schools and in maths teacher education since 1987. My passion is maths and my goal is to enable in the ways that I can the teaching of learning of maths in South Africa so that many more young people will have the opportunity to take up further studies that require maths for entrance. I studied through Wits and UNISA and have a BA, BSc Hons, MEd and am enrolled at Wits at present for a PhD.

    I taught Grade 4-7 Maths in Soweto for 15 years. I worked as a teacher trainer and consultant at Oxford University Press. I then moved to RADMASTE Centre and worked in the professional development of teachers in maths education until I joined GPLMS. I have served as the AMESA president and SAMF Board chairperson.

    I qualified as a teacher at Soweto College of Educ (SPTD); Potchefstroom Univ (HED) and WITS Univ (B.Ed Hon & M.Ed.)

    I have taught Foundation Phase for 22 years. For the last 5 years I have been involved in up skilling teachers in Mathematics, initially as a Master Trainer, then as the FP Maths Co-ordinator at Sci-Bono. I studied at Rand College of Education, Honours in Education Management at UNISA.

    Professional Biography

    I have a diploma in Education.  My major subjects were Maths and Biology.  I taught for 9 years; 5 years at Primary School level, and then 3 years in Secondary.  In 2001 I did a certificate in A+ computer programming.  From 2002 - 2004, I studied Computer Science at UP, but left after my 2nd year to work for a web design company.  In 2005 I registered at UNISA for a Bsc in Maths and Statistics, which I am currently completeing.

    Professional Biography

    Teaching/lecturing: Taught all subjects at Foundation, Intermediate and Senior Phases and have lectured in educational methodology at JCE.

    Programme design: Authored educational interventions in mathematics, economic science and entrepreneurship and have done extensive field research in a range of areas: Involved in researching “The implementation of the NCS in Foundation Phase”, conducted by Wits School of Education for the Directorate: Curriculum and Development, GDE. Contracted by the Shuttleworth Foundation to develop Intermediate mathematics courseware “Back to basics." Carried out research projects in Quintile 1 schools throughout SA for JET in numeracy and literacy – Litnum Project; APLLC and RNE Projects. Evaluated efficacy of IEP programmes (Mathematics, English and Science), funded by USAID and evaluated by JET.

    • Sourcing teachers for participation - consult with GPLMS team, District and NGOs, Mindset and Class Act DVD team
    • Development of Mathematics DVDs for use in PLGs

    After graduating from the University of Johannesburg with a BA Humanities, I worked for the FIFA LOC as a Media Shuttle Coordinator, a Content Manager at YDIDi and was part of the management team that pioneered the establishment of EKFM 103.6. I have a Certificate in Project Management from Wits and am an accredited facilitator of Team Business.
